7.1 Field expressions
The electromagnetic fields of the circular waveguide (figure 8 ) are calculated by finding the solutions to the propagation equation, derived from Maxwell's equations, given the boundary conditions . As with rectangular waveguides, we find that propagation takes place in TE modes (for which E z = 0) and TM modes (for which H z = 0).
