2. Processor evolution
Processors are the heart of computer systems, and board design is organized around these components. In 1965, Gordon Moore, one of Intel's founders, predicted that technological progress would enable the number of transistors on integrated circuits to double every two years, and that their speed would increase constantly as their size decreased. Table 4 and figure 1 illustrate Moore's Law and its application to the Intel range of microprocessors.
