6. Conclusion

The choppers we have studied are used in a wide range of applications. They have the advantage of providing a rapidly variable output voltage (if the switching frequency permits). The two- and four-quadrant versions, derived from the HDV structure (figure 21 ), are 100% compatible with DC motors, from which they instantly recover kinetic energy. They will therefore be of great interest in all robotics applications, where very high dynamics are required. In fact, they have supplanted thyristor rectifiers in this field, whenever the power demand remains modest.
