5. Lithium metal polymer battery production

5.1 Components of LMP batteries

LMP batteries are made up of films of three main components: a lithium foil, a thin film of polymer electrolyte and a composite positive electrode containing the electrochemically active material (figure 7 ). Composite electrodes are volume electrodes in which the electrochemical reaction is distributed throughout the electrode volume on the surface of the active material particles. These are complex composite materials which must have several functionalities: a maximum proportion of the active material, which is the energy reservoir, an electronically conductive additive (mainly nanoscale carbon) to distribute...
