2. Absorbers

2.1 How it works

The absorber is the active part of the statocompensator. The loads that generate disturbances on networks are generally backward-shifting, i.e. inductive; to compensate them, we use capacitors, which form the fixed part of the compensation.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to modulate the current in a capacitor with the desired speed, so, as shown in the schematic diagram in figure 3 , a capacitor bank is installed on the network, sized for the maximum reactive energy consumed.
