2. Assessment and measurement of voltage fluctuations and their effects
Measurement leads to knowledge, and knowledge makes it possible to define the optimum operating conditions for an electrical network. Optimization is all about user satisfaction, with its two a priori antinomic poles:
absence of interference with devices likely to be disturbed ;
minimal correction (at least cost) of disruptive devices.
The characterization of voltage fluctuations concerns both the amplitude of the deviations and the frequency at which they appear, as well as their shape. The perception of flicker, in short, the perception of flicker, is a function of the waveform of the fluctuations (known as the voltage change characteristic). Measurement therefore requires statistical analysis of the voltage.
