7. Precautions to be taken when using protective components

To avoid compromising the quality of the protection, certain rules must be observed when installing these components.

  • Never forget that these components are only effective against transient overvoltages, and that fuses or circuit-breakers must always be used to protect the circuit in the event of voltage variations or short-circuits.

  • Install the component as close as possible to the equipment, for three reasons.

    • The overvoltage is directly proportional to the inductance of the access circuit: the inductance L of the connection wires is therefore a function of their length; indeed, for a connection length
