3. Protection against voltage and electromagnetic interference

Disturbances that may affect electrical installations are :

  • power-frequency surges ;

  • atmospheric power surges ;

  • electromagnetic interference.

3.1 Power-frequency surges

These overvoltages are caused by faults between HV and LV installations. The rules designed to limit their values depend on the characteristics of the HV installation and the transformer station's grounding diagram. They are defined in the standards dealing with HV installations (NF C 11-201, NF C 13-100 and NF C 13-200).
