5. Operation

The system is currently operated from the control and command center (RCC) located on the French terminal, as a matter of priority, after several years of priority on the British side.

The operators are mainly responsible for managing rail and road traffic. One of the operators is in charge of controlling and remotely operating the electromechanical equipment needed to keep the system running smoothly. To do this, he uses the EMS (Engineering Management System). This system mainly manages :

  • electrical distribution and lighting ;

  • tunnel ventilation (normal and additional in the event of fire) ;

  • tunnel cooling plant ;

  • drainage and pumping ;

  • fire-fighting system ;
