5. Internal transients in arc furnace power supplies
5.1 Power surges
Arc furnace power supplies are subject to overvoltages of varying magnitude, which can cause major damage to the electrical installation and therefore require special attention. What's more, in certain particularly unfavorable configurations, these overvoltages can propagate within the plant network and cause damage to ancillary installations.
In these installations, a distinction is made between internal and external power surges.
