4. Systematic precautions
4.1 Time offset of probes
When calculating instantaneous power, it is essential that current and voltage signals are perfectly synchronized. It is therefore necessary to know the differential delay to be corrected for each pair of probes used.
This procedure is only of interest when the delays introduced for cable lengths of several meters or for certain probe cables are a few nanoseconds. A simple theoretical study has shown that it is desirable to achieve this compensation with an error of less than 0.5 ns if the component switches in 50 ns. The influence of offset on power and energy estimation is shown in figure 4 .
