3. SEAREV system

3.1 A simple principle

The SEAREV wave energy recovery system belongs to the family of wave-driven systems (§ ). It consists simply of a hermetically sealed float with a moving mass attached to its interior (figure ). The float is set in motion by the waves, the mass oscillates with its own motion, and the relative motion between these two bodies is transformed into electricity via an energy converter contained within the float.

The system offers a number of advantages:

  • all moving parts are contained within the hull of the float, and are therefore protected from the aggressions of the marine environment. As a result, SEAREV maintenance costs and risks of breakdown are minimized...
