2. Main environmental tests

Environmental tests are sometimes grouped into three main types, depending on the number of constraints imposed and the way in which they are applied.

The first type of test involves exposing a specimen to a single stress (for example, a dry heat test as per IEC 60 068-2-2 or a sinusoidal vibration test as per IEC 68 068-2-6).

The second type includes tests in which several stresses are applied separately in a specific order (sequentially or not). These tests are called composite tests (e.g. the climatic sequence of IEC 60 068-2-61).

The third type of test involves subjecting the specimen to a combination of several stresses (e.g. the high-temperature vibration test in IEC 60 068-2-51). These tests are referred to as combined tests.
