2. Magnetic circuit

2.1 Role

The torque C developed in an electric machine is proportional to the product of the magnetic flux Φ and the induced current I; it is expressed by the relation :

C = k IΦ

There are therefore two main components in the active part of a machine:

  • a set of conductors to carry the currents;

  • a magnetic circuit whose main functions are :

    • the channelling of magnetic induction lines,

    • maintaining drivers,

    • heat conduction from conductors to cooling zones (ventilation ducts, air gap)....
