3. Regulatory requirements

There are no specific regulations governing staircases. The main requirements are derived from more general regulations.

3.1 Stretcher passage

The decree of June 14, 1969 specifies (article 5) that "it must be possible to carry into or out of a dwelling a person lying on a stretcher" (figure 1 ). This requirement for the passage of a stretcher is specific to residential buildings, and is recommended for other constructions.
