Typically, cladding consists of a frame and a facing.
The framework is defined on a case-by-case basis for each system, and can be made of wood, steel, aluminum or a combination of these. It is made up of simple vertical rafters or crossed uprights, depending on whether it is used for small or large elements.
The cladding is applied to the framework, and can be made of a multitude of different materials: stone, terracotta, zinc, slate, fibre-cement sheet, ceramic sheet, lacquered sheet steel, aluminium, glass, fibre mortar, cement-glass composites, PVC, wood, and so on.
