4. Conclusion

Biomass refers to all organic matter that can be transformed into energy. By "organic matter" we mean both plant matter (food residues, wood, leaves) and animal matter (animal carcasses, living soil organisms).

In France, the Multi-Year Energy Plan (Programmation pluriannuelle de l'énergie - PPE) sets the target for biomass-fired power generation at between 790 and 1,040 MW by 2023, reflecting the ambition and desire to develop biomass-based bioenergy.

By 2050, the share of energy from biomass (bioelectricity, biofuels for transport and heating) could reach 40%. Biofuels (bioethanol, biodiesel) are derived from cultivated plants.
