4. Spheroidal graphite cast irons (GS)
4.1 Composition of GS cast irons
The typical composition of GS cast irons is as follows:
carbon: 3 to 4% ;
silicon: 1.8 to 3% (or 4 to 6% for better corrosion resistance) ;
-
manganese :
0.1 to 0.2% (to obtain a ferritic structure),
0.2 to 0.4% (to obtain a pearlitic structure),
1.8 to 4% (to obtain an austenitic structure) ;
sulfur: 0.01% ;
phosphorus: < 0.08%.
