3. Addition of railings, balconies, walkways or gangways

Refurbishments often require a rethinking of the building's original circulation logic to improve its functionality. A new use for the rehabilitated building may also lead to a change in safety requirements, and the need to add emergency corridors and staircases, walkways (figure 41 ) and external balconies.
