4. Conclusion

Despite the rise in popularity of cements, hydraulic limes have found their place in the construction industry. In the past, the range of lime types available was probably wider, as these materials were manufactured close to their place of use to limit transport. Today, lime characteristics are more standardized.

It's unlikely that the progress that will be made in the future will undermine the confidence placed in this age-old material, whose effectiveness no longer needs to be demonstrated. The compositions of lime, particularly hydraulic lime, will probably be further optimized to suit the intended applications and the economic constraints of the time, but the main principles that have enabled them to survive the centuries form a solid foundation that does not seem likely to be called into question in the short term.
