7. Conclusion

In this article, the main concepts involved in the analysis of nonlinear material behavior have been outlined (with particular emphasis on elastoplasticity in homogeneous materials) and illustrated with simple applications.

Nonlinear calculations have become indispensable for modern structures, given the optimization of their design, which leads to flexible, slender structures with as few materials as possible.

These calculations make it possible to realistically model the actual behavior of structures, and to identify any design and safety margins.

It is therefore important to combine geometrical and material non-linearity, in order to produce results that are as accurate as possible for controlling the actual behavior of structures.
