4. A few design rules

The surfaces of steel structures exposed to corrosion should be as small as possible, and the structure should have as few irregularities as possible, such as overlaps, corners and sharp edges (see § 9 ).

Joints should preferably be welded, rather than bolted or riveted, to achieve a more even overall...
