3. Luminaires

3.1 Technical specifications

A luminaire is an optical, mechanical and electrical assembly equipped to accommodate one or more lamps. It comprises an optical system, a body and, more often than not, the control gear (when not incorporated in the lamp).

It must meet the following objectives:

  • distribute the luminous flux emitted by the lamp to obtain the desired light distribution;

  • control the luminous flux to avoid visual discomfort for users;

  • have electrical and mechanical qualities that make it suitable for use and, in particular, ensure personal safety;

  • protect lighting equipment from the effects of the ambient...
