2. Materials used for the internal treatment of rooms

The five families of materials studied in this article are :

  • diaphragms ;

  • Helmholtz resonators ;

  • porous materials with rigid walls ;

  • porous materials with deformable walls ;

  • combinations of the above.

2.1 Diaphragms

Diaphragms operate according to the damped oscillator principle (mass-spring system) but, for practical reasons, they are made of flexural panels, i.e. large plates capable of vibrating in bending, preferably in their fundamental mode.
