7. Prospects for upgrading systems to higher power ratings

Magnetic refrigeration technology has the potential to achieve power ratings of several hundred kilowatts, significantly higher than existing units.

To increase power, you can :

  • use more efficient magnetocaloric alloys ;

  • increase the frequency of operation ;

  • higher mass of magnetocaloric alloys per unit;

  • use magnetic fields in excess of 1.3 T ;

  • optimize magnetocaloric cycles.

There are several main avenues of development.

Axis 1. Adjust the power extracted by the heat exchangers to the compromise between the percentage of EMC extracted and the preservation of the thermal gradient in the AMRs.
