2. Cogeneration. Total energy

Cogeneration corresponds to the joint production of heat and mechanical (or electrical) energy. This process is still referred to as "total energy", as it consists, for thermomechanical converters, in maximizing the thermal energy transferred to the cold source Q m , which is generally low-temperature thermal energy, and therefore of low exergy content (cf. [BE 8 050] , § 2.3.1):
