4. Working fluid
The fluids used in thermoacoustics must have as low a viscosity as possible to limit viscous friction losses, and a high thermal conductivity to facilitate convective heat transfer from the gas. These fluids must therefore have a small Prandtl number . This Prandtl number also represents the ratio between viscous and thermal boundary layer thicknesses:
