5. Conclusions. Key success factors
We have tried to show how, over and above sector-specific features, several characteristics of the energy efficiency improvement process in industry can be seen as key success factors, leading to real benefits for the company beyond mere compliance with regulatory requirements (the obligation to carry out an energy audit). These key success factors are summarized below.
The company's energy consumption concerns buildings, processes, utilities (production of cold, steam, compressed air, etc.), the various forms of energy (electricity purchased from the grid, locally-produced electricity, gas, biomass, etc.) and the various uses according to production equipment. To be able to propose truly specific and relevant ways of improving energy efficiency for each site studied, a systems approach is required, going beyond generalist recommendations:
