2. Thermal energy storage SET
During periods of low cooling demand, the cooling equipment operates in overdrive. The surplus energy produced is stored in a SET thermal energy storage unit. The stored cold is then used to meet the cooling load demanded by users. The storage medium can be chilled water, ice or a phase-change eutectic salt.
Thermal energy storage (cold storage/heat storage) can be an interesting strategy for optimizing RFU and RCU. It generally leads to a significant reduction in investment and operating costs, as well as more rational operation of energy production equipment.
