5. Irrotational flows
In a flow, depending on whether the vortex vectorT or the rotational velocity vector is zero or not, the energy consequences are different. In particular, the effect of viscosity, i.e. the irreversible transformation of mechanical energy into heat, may be zero. These flows, in whichT = 0 = rot v, are known as irrotational flows. In the opposite case (T different from zero), flows are said to be rotational.
