2.1 Measurement units

Supercapacitor characteristics are conventionally obtained by normalizing its properties (capacity, energy, power...) by the device's weight and/or volume. But unlike macroscopic devices, a gravimetric attribute is not appropriate for characterizing a microsupercapacitor: the amount of active material used in the electrode is tiny and negligible compared to the total weight of the microdevice. Volumetric characteristics are much more suitable, as they enable different electrode materials to be compared independently of their thickness. However, this unit of measurement can provide erroneous information for layers of very different thicknesses: the volumetric performance of a thin layer can rarely be extrapolated to thick layers
