An ultra-thin, versatile organic platform

So we've seen just how interesting the aryldiazonium salt reduction grafting method is, especially electrografting. The interface formed is highly robust, and the approach is absolutely versatile, particularly in terms of surfaces (wide variety of materials that can be modified) or functions (great chemical flexibility of aromatic amine precursors).

A major difficulty with this method concerns the direct production of dense, compact monolayers. More generally, it should be emphasized that there is currently no truly general, efficient and direct method for forming organic monolayers that are robust (highly stable interface), dense, compact and easily post-functionalized, on a wide range of different materials, whether conductive,...
