7. Colored Petri nets

Throughout this dossier, we have confined ourselves to Petri nets using ordinary tokens. There is another category, called colored Petri nets, which we should mention before concluding.

Unlike ordinary Petri nets, where tokens are trivialized, they constitute distinct entities in colored Petri nets. This allows, among other things:

  • track their movements on the network;

  • to assign them properties that may vary during simulation;

  • to validate the same transition from several different tokens.
