2. Generic principles of FRACAS methods
2.1 Preamble
The previous section presented the main methods and tools used to identify the causes of a malfunction, seek corrective action and verify its effectiveness over time. These methods have their origins in the field of quality management. In the case of complex industrial plants, various methods, tools and dedicated software have been developed since the 1980s, each with its own specific characteristics. The aim of this section is to present a generic FRACAS method which synthesizes the principles and concepts adapted to technical failures.
