4.1 Origins and applications

The Pieu method (breakdowns, equipment importance, equipment condition, use) developed by Yves Lavina aims to define the criticality of equipment using a multi-criteria matrix. It may be necessary when breakdown histories are not available. It has the advantage of being very simple to implement.

With this method, the criticality of equipment is precisely defined by rating with scales defined by the experts according to criteria specific to their industrial sectors.
