3. LOPA versus other methods

3.1 LOPA versus event tree

Since the 2001 publication of CCPS , the LOPA method has been somewhat abused, sometimes tending towards an accumulation of different initiating events leading to the same consequence. It is therefore not uncommon to see the LOPA method applied to accidents involving several "Cause; Consequence" sequences (loss of containment on equipment, for example).

In such an application, it is legitimate to ask whether the LOPA method remains the most suitable approach. This questioning necessarily leads to a comparison...
