7. Conclusion

At present, the main source of rubber products comes from non-reusable used tires. The consistency of their composition, if we take care to separate passenger and truck tires, makes them a genuine secondary raw material. When it comes to manufacturing waste, the business model is different.

There are three possible reusable products: rubber powders, reclaimed rubber and carbon black from pyrolysis operations. These products, whatever their form, can be used in raw rubber formulations, to make products using up to 100% of these products, or in cutting semi-crystalline thermoplastics to make impact plastics or thermoplastic elastomers.

Efforts in this direction are currently underway, but a major obstacle to these uses is the problem of odor during shaping and use. A solution to this problem will enable more massive development of recycled...
