4. Conclusion

The 1980s saw a major expansion in the application of vibrational spectrometry to polymers. This development is associated with significant improvements in instrumentation, due in particular to the spread of Fourier transform infrared spectrometry and the introduction of new Raman spectrometry technologies.

The sensitivity of the instruments currently on the market means that a wide range of coupling techniques can be used, considerably broadening the scope of applications for these spectrometers.

The scientific literature on optical spectrometry is extremely broad. In the references cited at the end of this article, the reader will find publications of general interest, as well as a set of publications designed to complement the examples of optical spectrometry applications given in this article.
