4.1 Drying

PLA is a polar polymer and, like PET and PA, tends to absorb water from the surrounding environment. PLA must be dried before processing to avoid defects in the finished product caused by water evaporation, and to prevent hydrolytic degradation during extrusion (§ 6.1 ).
