3. Use of plastics in the automotive industry

Plastics can be found almost everywhere in the automotive industry, but their distribution is not uniform.

3.1 Automotive sub-sections

The average car is made up of 15,000 parts, including around 600 plastic parts.

Example

the Renault Laguna features 592 parts made from 56 different plastics.

Each of these parts is subject to specific constraints. However, all these parts are usually grouped into a few categories for which the requirements are more or less homogeneous. At least four main areas can be distinguished [5] :
