PET is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester that first developed in the textile and automotive industries in the form of yarns and fibers, before expanding into the food packaging industry in the form of films or hollow bottle-like bodies, where PET gradually replaced glass and PCV in the packaging of mineral water and carbonated drinks to become virtually the only polymer used in this market today.
