In the literature, numerous devices have been described for measuring dimensional changes in a material as a function of temperature and other variables. Two methods are widely used to determine changes in volume as a function of temperature and pressure: the piston-cylinder technique and the piezometer technique
2.1 Piston-cylinder technology
In this technique, the material is confined within a rigid cylinder or die, which it fills completely. Pressure is applied by a load-bearing piston, and the piston's displacement, recorded as a function of temperature and pressure variations, is used to calculate the sample's specific volume.
