5. Nanocomposite applications

Polymer matrix processing is currently well mastered and inexpensive, and clays are easy to extract. These two factors make them ideal candidates for new materials with specific properties (see Table A at [doc AM 5 205] ).

5.1 Barrier properties

The aim is to be able to substitute these new materials for glass or technical polymers. This mainly concerns food packaging and, in particular, containers for liquids. These bottles are transparent, impermeable to gas and better able to retain aromas.
