5. Conclusion

The physico-chemical analysis of polymers can pose relatively difficult problems, in particular due to :

  • the complexity of macromolecular structures (copolymers, thermosets, etc.);

  • the complexity of industrial mixtures (systems with more than ten different ingredients are not uncommon);

  • the infusibility and insolubility of certain structures (particularly thermosets).

However, modern analysis techniques have reached a level of performance where these difficulties are no longer totally insurmountable obstacles. While it may be virtually impossible to fully describe the structure and composition of certain industrial materials, it is generally possible to obtain enough decisive information to solve the problem at hand.
