3. Conclusion
The development of biobased epoxy resins for the substitution of bisphenol A diglycidyl ether remains a major challenge, as many synthetic bisphenols with structures very similar to BPA appear to have comparable activity with respect to human hormone receptors. Compounds already widely used in the literature, such as resorcinol, face similar problems. Academic researchers have focused heavily on compounds that can be extracted from bioresources, as their chemical structures are more complex and, for some of them, present low toxicity profiles. These compounds are widely studied, as their chemical structures bring new properties. However, these structures also bring different thermomechanical properties to epoxy materials, so it can be difficult to find a unique alternative to DGEBA.
