5. Statistical demonstration tests
As with reliability demonstration tests, statistical tests based on the results of repair or maintenance tests on simulated failures can be used to verify the conformity of a system's maintainability with the requirements of the specification. Numerous types of test have been proposed for this purpose, among which we will describe three from the American standards MIL-STD 471 and MIL-STD 473, which have been used as a model.
5.1 MIL-STD 471 Method 1
This is a sequential test of both average and maximum corrective maintenance times. It assumes that maintenance times follow a lognormal distribution.
