2. Maintenance
Systematic maintenance is designed to prevent the quality of electrical installations from deteriorating, before this results in damage to equipment, personal injury, production or service stoppages, and losses far greater than the occasional problems that maintenance can create, but which good organization can reduce or even eliminate.
This notion of maintaining quality is well captured by the term "maintenance" and etymologically contained in the word "entretien", which means "to hold together", "to maintain", "to preserve".
The organization of maintenance (permanent service or outsourcing) is the result of economic considerations involving :
