5. The contribution of IT

There are two ways in which IT can contribute to FMECA:

  • formatting analyses and processing results;

  • assistance in preparing FMEAs from databases.

5.1 FMECA editors

FMECA editors are tools that help to format and finalize analyses. These are usually word-processing and spreadsheet-based applications. They provide assistance in drafting analysis grids. There are an increasing number of such applications, and the assessment of their quality will mainly take into account the processing capabilities they offer (scenario statistics, action plan compilation, automatic summary sheet, etc.).
