6. Conclusion

Computerization of the maintenance function can only be envisaged as part of a global project implementing a structured approach. This is one of the first conditions for a successful CMMS project. It enables :

  • informing future users and raising their awareness of the objectives being pursued (permanent refocusing);

  • implementation of an implementation strategy with the identification of expectations and the application of the "give and take" rule;

  • Involvement of all the players concerned (participative approach) in the choice of software package, and in adapting the organization and working methods;

  • gradual implementation of the various modules and staff training.
