4. Preparing interventions
The main role of the preparation function is to determine "how it's done". The preparer draws up procedures (routings) describing and memorizing operations that may be repetitive. These documents detail the operations to be carried out on equipment, specifying :
resources required (tools, spare parts, number and qualifications of operators, outside services, response times, etc.);
actions to be taken (consignments, site preparation, safety procedures, stop points and checks, etc.).
This work therefore produces essential data, and can have a major impact on lead times and costs. Inadequate preparation can increase costs and lengthen downtime. It can also have consequences for staff safety.
